LinkedIn Clicks with Sun & MySQL to Connect Over 25 Million Professionals Worldwide

SANTA CLARA, CA -- July 28, 2008 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc.today announced that the largest professional networking site, LinkedInhas selected Sun's MySQL Enterprise database subscription to supportthe company's rapid growth. With a network of more than 25 millionprofessionals in more than 170 industries from around the globe andmany more joining daily, LinkedIn turned to Sun when it recognized theneed to increase the speed and performance of the open source databasethat powers its public Web site.

Allowing members to create profiles, connect with and be found byfriends, former colleagues, clients and partners, LinkedIn enablesindividuals to build out their networks with old and new contactsalike. Like many social networking sites, LinkedIn is experiencingsustained growth in popularity with membership numbers soaring and isseeing daily downloads of approximately 200 million. Wanting tomaintain the highest levels of service, LinkedIn worked closely withSun's MySQL professional services group to review its existing MySQLdeployment and propose a suitable solution to meet the company's growthneeds.

With much of its existing infrastructure based on Sun technologies,including the Solaris 10 Operating System (OS) and Sun SPARC?Enterprise servers, LinkedIn leveraged its strong relationship with Sunto work closely with the MySQL team to develop a suitable plan forupgrading its database. Opting for a three year subscription to MySQLEnterprise in conjunction with Solaris Everywhere and MySQLprofessional services, the team had the software installed and upgradedwithin two weeks of signing the deal. Sun's MySQL open source databasenow provides LinkedIn with a reliable and scalable infrastructure,capable of coping with future growth demands, speeding up siteresponsiveness and eliminating current backlogs during user interaction.
