International Business Directory Chooses Open Source Database for its high data availability and unrivalled performance
Paris -- May 2, 2007 -- MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today announced that the EUROPAGES international business directory has chosen MySQL Enterprise to power its critical online applications.
EUROPAGES is the specialised multimedia directory for European exporters. It contains data on 700,000 selected European businesses from 35 countries across all industries for their dynamic import and export operations. The EUROPAGES Web site is available in 26 languages and is consulted in 218 countries. In 2006, it recorded over 122 million company searches.
The EUROPAGES international on-line traffic is exponential. To face up to the challenges of this rising load, EUROPAGES needed a high-performance, high availability database management system. MySQL was already in use internally for other projects and following numerous performance tests, also turned out to be the best choice for this critical application. MySQL 5.0 is deployed on a replicated master/slave architecture.
"MySQL Enterprise has been in production for four months and our migration experience has been extremely positive because the database has given us 100-percent uptime," states Thierry Cohen-Solal, EUROPAGES Information Systems Manager. "Consultants from MySQL France have helped us optimise the design of our business applications, enabling us to reduce the size of our technical infrastructure and divide our costs by four! We have achieved performance gains and our interactive platform can respond to high user demand and the natural growth of our business. From now on, we will be migrating other heavy critical applications to MySQL Enterprise and doing so with full peace-of-mind."
EUROPAGES has subscribed to MySQL Enterprise to ensure it can receive round-the-clock assistance from the open source database software vendor. According to Thierry Cohen-Solal, "This peace-of-mind is indispensable. The responsiveness of the technical staff behind the product was a determining factor. When the system was commissioned for testing, an incident was resolved in a few hours and MySQL consultants were mobilised at that very instant on our international network."
Bertrand Matthelié, MySQL AB’s director of EMEA marketing, states, "The application implemented by EUROPAGES is yet another demonstration that MySQL Enterprise is the best database for modern on-line applications. As Tim O’Reilly puts it, ‘Today's Web 2.0 infrastructure is tomorrow's enterprise infrastructure’."
